St Mellitus College is delighted to announce that the Revd Russell Winfield has been appointed as the new Dean of St Mellitus College.
Russell has been a member of the staff team since 2016 and has served as part of the leadership team in his role as Director of Development. In particular Russell has been at the forefront of developing and growing the Peter Stream as we seek to support people from under-represented groups in their vocations, as well as establishing partnerships and supporting and resourcing the global church though international affiliations and relationships. After a career in stockbroking and investment management, Russell served as a missionary in Labrador, South Africa and India, then as Student Pastor at Holy Trinity Cambridge. He served a curacy in Brentford and has been on the staff at St Mellitus for the past four years. He has a passion for discipleship, formation and theological education.
Rt Revd Dr Graham Tomlin (Bishop of Kensington and President of St Mellitus College), writes:
Russell brings a wide range of experience to the role as well as a proven commitment to the vision and values of the college and a passion for its mission in serving the Church nationally and internationally. Russell will offer spiritual and strategic wisdom, the humility and drive to bring out the best of a very talented staff team and to lead the College into the next phase of its life.
Revd Russell Winfield says:
I am grateful for this opportunity and for the encouragement of the St Mellitus College Members and Leadership in entrusting me with this role. It has been a great privilege to be involved in the life of the college and I am hopeful for the opportunities ahead. I am extremely grateful to my wonderful colleagues in the Leadership Team who lead the college with wisdom, grace and enthusiasm, and I look forward to continuing to work closely with them and be obedient to the call of God. The students – past, present and future – are the lifeblood of all we do and to journey with them as they study and train is an immense privilege.
Russell studied economics at Sheffield Hallam University and theology at University of Cambridge, and is a former student of St Mellitus where he completed his MA in Christian Leadership, serving his title post in the Parish of Brentford in West London. He is married to Erin and has two young children, Gabriel (4 years) and Georgia (5 months).
Bishop Sarah Mullally (Bishop of London and Co-Chair of St Mellitus College), writes:
I am delighted that Russell has accepted the post of Dean. He brings with him not just a passion for Jesus Christ but experience in different contexts which equips him well to lead St Mellitus into the future and flourish.
Revd Nicky Gumbel (Vicar of Holy Trinity Brompton and Co-Chair of St Mellitus College), said:
I have every confidence that Russell Winfield will prove a worthy successor to Graham Tomlin and Andy Emerton and will lead St Mellitus with vision, enthusiasm and Godly wisdom.
Bishop Peter Hill (Bishop of Barking and Co-Chair of St Mellitus College), commented:
This is an exciting appointment. At this crucial time, Russell will bring wisdom, vision and a depth of pastoral commitment to the leadership of St Mellitus: all rooted and grounded in his love for the Lord Jesus.
