John is Chief Executive of the Church of England Pensions Board, which manages £2.5bn of pension funds and provides pension and retirement housing services to those who have worked for the Church of England. An economist, John read Philosophy, Politics and Economics at Keble College Oxford, and has a post-graduate degree from the University of Westminster. John’s early career was in the transport sector. From 2004-2011 he held various senior executive positions at Transport for London, specialising in strategy, asset management, business planning and private finance initiatives. John served as Chief Executive & Diocesan Secretary of the Chelmsford Diocesan Board of Finance from 2011 to 2018. During this time he took on a number of roles for the wider Church including chairing the National Procurement Group and contributing to working parties on the financing of theological training, diocesan Boards of Education, and church buildings. Having served as a trustee of a number of charities, John is experienced in charity governance, and is presently a Trustee and Chair of the Audit Committee for Christian charity One YMCA. John and his family are part of the worshipping community at Chelmsford Cathedral.
