Revd Dr Joe Kennedy is a Tutor and Lecturer in Theology at St Mellitus North West. Joe grew up in Scotland, and studied mathematics and then theology at Edinburgh University. He moved to England in 1997 and spent a year working in school chaplaincy before moving to Oxford where he prepared for ordination at St Stephen’s House and undertook postgraduate study in theology under the supervision of John Webster.
After ordination, Joe served as a curate in Oxford Diocese and then as Dean of Chapel and Fellow at Selwyn College Cambridge, and as Principal of one of the Church of England’s residential theological colleges, at Mirfield in West Yorkshire. In addition to his work at St Mellitus, Joe is Vicar of Oxton St Saviour, a suburban parish in Chester Diocese with a large, growing church community and a ‘blended economy’ approach. He is married to Emily, who works as a chartered accountant, and they have two young children.
